Finnish Crime Prevention Evaluation Database has been updated
The Finnish Crime Prevention Evaluation Database (FINPREV) collects and summarises information on studies that evaluate the effectiveness of crime prevention measures implemented in Finland. The Institute of Criminology and Legal Policy published an updated database summary in January.
The FINPREV database currently contains 37 evaluated measures. The database includes information on studies (including approved theses) evaluating measures that aim to reduce crime or increase safety. The measures that have been evaluated vary from situational crime prevention, social prevention and rehabilitation of prisoners to surveillance in public spaces and amendments to criminal sanctions.
For example, four measures have been found effective in combating youth crime: the KiVa anti-bullying programme, the multi-professional Anchor work targeting offenders under 18 years of age, targeted police surveillance of places and events popular among young people, and participation in upper secondary education.
The easy-to-use database is intended for both data consumers and data producers. The Research Division of the National Council for Crime Prevention requests all researchers conducting evaluation research on crime prevention to submit information on their studies to the database. Information can be entered here (in Finnish).
